Published October 10, 2026. Delta Air Lines and Hyatt have announced a long-term loyalty partnership connecting Delta SkyMiles and World of Hyatt. The September 9 announcement promises extra earning opportunities for eligible elite members, with the new collaboration expected to launch in the coming months.
For travelers who already fly Delta and stay with Hyatt, the prospect is straightforward: qualifying travel could earn rewards in both programs. The important caveat is that the announcement is a preview, with key participation details still to come.
What has been confirmed?
According to Hyatt’s announcement, eligible World of Hyatt elite members will be able to earn Hyatt points on qualifying Delta airfare purchases in eligible fare classes. Delta SkyMiles Medallion members will be eligible to earn miles on qualifying stays at participating Hyatt properties.
Delta describes the planned benefit as Dual Earn: extra rewards across flights and hotel stays alongside certain benefits in the other program. The initial focus is elite members. Neither announcement establishes that every member or every booking will qualify.
What is still missing?
The official launch announcements reviewed for this article do not provide a firm start date, earning rates, a complete list of eligible status tiers, or enrollment instructions. Qualifying fare classes and stay rules will matter, as will any caps or exclusions in the final terms.
The companies also preview additional experiences and benefits. Travelers should wait for specific offers before assigning those promises a dollar value. These announcements do not establish reciprocal elite status, automatic upgrades, or the ability to transfer points between the two programs.
What happens to Hyatt’s American Airlines relationship?
In a separate September 9 update, Hyatt said it and American Airlines mutually decided to end their enhanced relationship while preserving eligible benefits through each program’s current earning year.
- AAdvantage members who link their Hyatt and American accounts by 11:59:59 p.m. Central on November 15, 2026 can continue earning Hyatt awards through Loyalty Point Rewards through February 28, 2027.
- World of Hyatt members who link their accounts by November 15, 2026 can continue earning AAdvantage awards through Milestone Rewards through December 31, 2026.
Hyatt also says the option to choose 500 AAdvantage miles instead of Hyatt points on eligible stays will remain after the broader relationship ends. That is a separate earning choice from the new Delta collaboration.
The Strategic-Traveler take
Our view: this could be useful extra value for someone whose existing trips already fit both brands. A convenient Delta itinerary and a well-priced Hyatt stay could become more rewarding without changing the trip.
Until rates and eligibility are published, compare flights by total cost, timing and routing, and hotels by price and location. Paying a premium today for an unpriced future benefit is difficult to justify. Keep your loyalty accounts ready, check the American transition dates if relevant, and review the final enrollment and booking rules before counting on extra earnings.
