The U.S. Citi Prestige Card is closed to new applicants, so the useful question is whether an existing cardholder should keep it. Our verdict: its hotel benefit and earning structure can still support a renewal, but only when they produce incremental savings. This is a legacy-card assessment, not a new application recommendation. Citi Prestige products in other countries have different terms and should not be substituted for the U.S. card.

Start with your account terms

Published U.S. reviews describe a standard $495 annual fee, a $250 annual travel credit, 5 ThankYou points per dollar on dining and air travel, 3 on hotels and cruise lines, and 1 on other purchases. Legacy or relationship-based pricing may differ. Verify the fee, earning rules and benefits in your own renewal notice and Citi account before making a decision.

The public issuer information available for this discontinued product is less complete than for currently marketed cards. This review uses Citi’s travel materials alongside independently reported U.S. legacy terms. It does not treat old marketing pages or an overseas application as a current U.S. offer.

Fourth-night savings need a price comparison

The complimentary fourth-night hotel benefit is limited to two eligible stays each calendar year. It requires at least four consecutive nights booked through Citi Travel or its designated booking channel. The benefit uses the average nightly room rate, excluding taxes and fees; it does not simply erase every charge on the fourth day.

Compare the total after the discount with a direct booking for the same room and cancellation policy. Also account for hotel points, elite-night credit and benefits that may not be available through a third-party booking. An attractive headline discount can become modest net savings when the portal starts at a higher rate.

Illustrative renewal math

Assume your verified annual fee is $495 and you naturally use $250 of eligible travel credits. That leaves $245 to justify. If one planned four-night stay is $1,000 through the eligible portal before a $250 room-rate benefit, versus $900 directly, the portal saves $150 before differences in taxes, rewards and hotel benefits. It does not save $250 relative to your alternative.

In that example, $95 remains to justify through additional earning and other benefits. These are hypothetical figures, not quoted rates or guaranteed account terms. Use your past twelve months of bookings to test whether the hotel benefit is recurring value rather than a one-off possibility.

Watch duplicate benefits and exit decisions

Priority Pass access matters less if another card already covers your routes and companions. Likewise, compare Prestige’s incremental earning against your existing wallet, not against earning nothing. Include the cost of any replacement card in a change-product calculation.

Before closing or converting, confirm the treatment and deadlines for your ThankYou points with Citi. Moving points or combining accounts should not be assumed to eliminate every expiry rule. Ask which product changes your account is eligible for and do not assume Prestige can be reopened later.

Our assessment

Keep Prestige when actual travel-credit use, net hotel savings and incremental rewards exceed your specific fee. Reconsider it when the fourth-night benefit goes unused or forces an inferior booking. Pay balances in full. No referral or application button is offered here for a card closed to new U.S. applicants.
